Southampton's Children’s Meeting meets once a month usually on the third Sunday with an age range of 2 to 9 at present. We aim to offer a Quaker approach which is accepting and encouraging, helping children to feel happy and secure. Themes are linked to Quaker Testimonies and Biblical stories with activities suitable to all ages. Parents are welcome to stay with their children or to join the adult meeting, as they wish.
There is also a Young Quakers Meeting just up the road at Winchester on the second Sunday of the month, and some of our young people go there as well. Winchester friends have a purpose built garden room which provides an great location, and the opportunity to meet up with other Quaker youth.
Our sense of community does not depend on all professing identical beliefs, for it grows from worshipping together, knowing one another, loving one another, accepting responsibilities, sharing and working together. We will be helped by tried and tested Quaker methods and procedures, but the meeting will only live if we develop a sense of community, which includes children and adults alike. If all those who belong to our meeting are lovingly cared for, the guidance of the spirit will be a reality.
We fully appreciate the importance of good safeguarding practice, including regular DBS checks on our volunteers. To find out more, or if you have any concerns, please follow this link.
