Join us for our weekly Quaker social get-together on zoom! This group started with Friends from Southampton Meeting during covid lock-down, and we enjoy it so much that we have just kept going. Everyone is welcome from across the area and beyond, and do feel free to drop in and out as you like.
6 April 2025 at 10:45 – 11:45
Venue: Friends Meeting House, 1a Ordnance Rd, Southampton, SO15 2AZ
The easiest way to discover Quakers is to simply come along to one of our Sunday meetings, and see if you like it. We sit in gathered silence for an hour, with occasional spoken ministry as anyone feels moved to speak. After notices, the kettle goes on for friendly conversation over tea and coffee. All welcome, newcomers, visitors and old friends alike.

22 June 2025 at 12:15 – 16:45
Venue: A circular walk, starting at The Peace Fountain
Come and join us for the annual Southampton Council of Faiths Peace Walk
We meet at The Peace Fountain* (12:15 – 12:40), moving onto Medina Mosque (13:00 – 13:40), Singh Saba Gurdwara (14:00 – 15:00) , The Orthodox Jewish Synagogue (15:15 – 15:45) ending up at the Quaker Meeting House (16:00 – 16:45). Refreshments will be served along the way, and there is no obligation to stay for the whole walk if you can only manage some of it.
Describing the 2019 Peace Walk for an article in The Friend, Helen Carter-Shaw, of Bournemouth Coastal Area Meeting, tells how they ‘journeyed through the city spreading the message of breaking down barriers and embracing multiculturalism….For many, it was their first time in a religious building not connected with their own faith and an opportunity to find out about other faiths. It was emphasised that “earth is one country and humankind its citizen” and that “we all look at the one light. We may see it through a different window – but it is still the same light”.’
After last year’s walk, local MP Caroline Nokes wrote in her letter from Westminster “Sometimes I say that we are lucky in this area to have a tolerant and inclusive community, but it is not luck. It is down to the exceptionally hard work of a small number of very dedicated people of all faiths and none, who come together to make sure there is co-operation and understanding.”

*The Peace Fountain in East Park, SO14 7DW is a 13 minute walk or short bus ride on the U6H from Central Station, close to several bus routes (get off at the Cenotaph) and cycle paths, and with a choice of public carparks nearby.
